Novalung 'interventional Lung Assist' now available in the UK through Inspiration Healthcare Ltd

Inspiration Healthcare formally announces the availability of the first functionally and artificial membrane lung, the interventional lung assist (iLA) in the UK.

The iLA has been used widely in Germany and over 400 cases have been carried out in Europe with great success. The technique gives the intensivist a different approach to ventilation and gas exchange that allows the lungs time to heal by utilising lung protective ventilation strategies combined with highly efficient gas exchange.

In Germany, Novalung offer 24/7 clinical support to train intensivists and nursing staff, this support will be mirrored by Inspiration Healthcare in the UK. 'At first our approach will be through education', says Toby Foster of Inspiration Healthcare, 'this should allow for good results from the start even through the first couple of procedures. We will be offering our usual 24/7 support and are committed to being on site with all equipment within 24 hours of receiving a phone call at any time of day or night.' Coupled with this, Novalung have committed one of their Clinical Specialist to be on site at the same time for the first procedures in the UK to help and pass on their great clinical knowledge.

'Our aim is to be able to offer an even better service to critical care in the UK, by bringing down the time to 6 hours. We will also be prepared to spend time at the bedside with the hospital staff and offer 24 hour telephone support for the more experienced users', concluded Mr Foster.
